On the problem of choosing optimal systems of soil temperature stabilization for construction in the cryolithozone

Permafrost foundation soils are used in the frozen state for construction in the cryolithozone. Their frozen state is maintained during construction and operation of engineering structures. By concrete practical examples the article discusses questions of choosing optimal systems of soil thermal stabilization, including a combined system of temperature stabilization with application of thermal pumps.

On using heat pipes for designing large-size buildings and structures in difficult geocryological conditions

The article discusses the main design problems of soil temperature stabilization systems to ensure stability of large-size buildings of high responsibility level in non-uniform permafrost conditions by the example of two objects. The necessity and efficiency of application of temperature stabilizers (heat pipes) for freezing the base of one of them before its construction are substantiated. Impossibility of only using the ventilated cellar as a seazonally acting cooling device and the need for additional application of heat pipes are proved for the second object.

Controlling the hydrogeological regime in order to prevent deformations of pile foundations as a result of frost heaving of soils (by the example of the Yamburg oil and gas condensate field)

During operation of gas facilities in the zone of continuous permafrost there is a risk of technogenic development of negative geocryological processes. One of them is frost heaving of soils revealing itself in the form of heaving mounds, frost cracks and deformations of pile foundations. Control and minimization of this process are among goals of geotechnical monitoring of bases and foundations. The paper presents materials on field study, interpretation and zonation of a gas field area in the Yamburg oil-gas condensate field and experimental results on improvement of stability of pile foundations.

Improving reliability of geotechnical systems using seasonally acting cooling devices

The article analyzes the causes of frequent failures of seasonally acting cooling devices (SACD) used for construction in the permafrost zone. The author points out the necessity of increasing reliability of geotechnical systems (GTS) by improving the quality of SACD work. He proposes to control observation of the requirements of technical regulations and standards at the stages of production, transportation, storage, installation, operation of SACD and geotechnical monitoring of GTS. Some examples are given.

On the possibility of effective deep compaction of subsiding loess loams by hydroexplosions (in seismically active regions)

The paper considers the possibility of effective deep compaction of pre-watered subsiding loess loams by hydroexplosions in the case of high seismic activity in the region. If during long consolidation period after explosions any earthquakes occur, they will contribute additional compaction. If earthquakes do not happen, additional compaction will be still quite effective due to physical-chemical and mechanical processes under influence of active manifestation of physical fields (geomagnetic, electric, acoustic) during the period of high seismic activity. The article is published as a basis for discussion.

Taking into account the time factor at analysis of results of standard soil tests by piles

The paper proposes a technique of office analysis of results of standard soil testing by a pile, including: comparative processing of the settlement-load graphs (load and time ones); conditional discrimination of the pile-soil system state by the phases of the foundation soil work; determination of the proportionality limits, bearing capacity, pre-experimental load; prognosis of the permissible design load from the future engineering structure using the obtained time factor taking into account the ultimate subsidence and service life of an object.
